Avant-garde beauty shoot for Mirror Mirror Magazine
When I had the opportunity to work with model Jacquess at No Babes Agency, my wonderful makeup artist Vlad Thiriaux and myself were seduced into an experimental, avant-garde beauty shoot that would combine handmade wigs and bold 80s style makeup. Keen on developing our own visual language, especially since we both are interested in esoteric knowledge and symbolic resonance (I wrote a PhD dissertation on surrealism, after all), we wanted the shoot to feel like a magic ritual.
What better occasion to experiment with painting with light—a photographic technique that involves long shutter speeds and the use of a flashlight in utter darkness. The results are never predictable—you have to feel your way through the literal darkness. But when the team gathers around the computer screen, anxiously waiting to discover the image together… there are few experiences that rival the feeling of magical co-creation, almost like waiting to get your developed film back from the lab.
The images fit the eclectic and conceptual style of Mirror Mirror Magazine, so we were thrilled to have them published there.
